The School of Mathematics and Statistics was founded in April 2016, with its mathematics discipline being one of the oldest at Guizhou University, tracing back to the College of Arts and Sciences, National Guizhou University in 1942. Through the continuous efforts of several generations of mathematicians, the college now boasts a comprehensive talent cultivation system. This includes first-class undergraduate programs at the national level in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, a master's degree program in Mathematics, a professional master's degree program in Applied Statistics, a doctoral degree program in the first-level discipline of Mathematics, and a postdoctoral research station in Mathematics. The college is currently composed of the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Statistics, and the Public Mathematics Department. Fundamental Mathematics is a provincially key discipline, and Mathematics is a key discipline with distinctive features in Guizhou Province. The college hosts two provincial-level scientific research innovation teams (Guizhou Province Innovation Team of Mathematical Modeling and Analysis of Complex Systems, and Guizhou Province Innovation Team of Data-Driven Modeling, Learning, and Optimization), and one provincial key laboratory (Guizhou Province Key Laboratory of Game Decision and Control Systems). The mathematics discipline plays a crucial role in supporting the National Big Data Key Laboratory, co-established by the province and the ministry, and is also included in the Double First-Class initiative as a key discipline group jointly developed by the province and the ministry.

The School of Mathematics and Statistics currently has 91 faculty members, including 79 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 17 professors and 29 associate professors, with 48 teachers holding Ph.D. degrees, accounting for 60.75% of the faculty. The college has 18 doctoral supervisors (including 5 external supervisors) and 63 master's supervisors (including 26 external supervisors). The faculty has been selected for national talent programs 6 times and provincial talent programs 14 times.  Notable among them are one national candidate for the Ten Thousand Talents Program, one national expert with outstanding contributions, two experts receiving special allowances from the State Council, one highly cited researcher recognized by Clarivate Analytics, and one highly cited Chinese scholar recognized by Elsevier. Additionally, the college boasts one core expert in one core expert in Guizhou Province, two provincial experts under government management, two outstanding young scientific talents in Guizhou Province, one expert receiving special allowances from the provincial government, four innovative talents at the Hundred and Thousand levels in Guizhou Province, one outstanding master's supervisor in Guizhou Province, one outstanding scientific worker in Guizhou Province, two recipients of the Guizhou Provincial Youth Science and Technology Award, one Guizhou Provincial Science and Technology Pioneer, and two recipients of the Guizhou May Day Labor Medal.

The college boasts a high level of teaching and research, with abundant achievements. In recent years, the college has received one Special Prize, three First Prizes, and two Second Prizes for teaching achievements in undergraduate and graduate education in Guizhou Province. Additionally, the college has won one Second Prize in the National College Teachers' Innovation Competition, one Third Prize in the National College Teachers' Youth Teaching Competition, and two First Prizes in provincial teaching competitions. The college has been awarded over 30 projects by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, published 5 academic monographs with publishers such as Springer and Elsevier, and has published over 400 SCI papers in significant academic journals. The college has also won one First Prize and three Third Prizes in the Guizhou Provincial Natural Science Awards. The School of Mathematics and Statistics remains committed to its original mission of fostering virtue and nurturing talent, upholding the mission of educating students for the Party and the country. The college strives to cultivate more outstanding talents for the Party and the country in the new era and on the new journey, aiming to make even greater contributions to society.
